§ 47. Mr. LOVAT-FRASERasked the Minister of Health if his attention has been called to the report of the recent investigation by the Ministry of Labour into the question of unemployment among boys and girls under the age of 18, in which it is stated that the chief defect in both sexes is poor eyesight; and if he will take steps to inquire into the causes of this evil with a view to counteracting it?
Sir H. YOUNGThe report to which my hon. Friend refers indicates the importance of the preservation of eyesight and the prevention of blindness, and my hon. Friend will be aware of the work which is already being done in this direction under the maternity and child welfare and school medical services. The whole problem is at present under the consideration of two committees, one of which is appointed by the Board of Education, and I will arrange for this report to be brought to their notice.
