HC Deb 25 October 1932 vol 269 cc787-8
7. Captain HEILGERS

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he has made any further representations to His Majesty's Government in Australia on the position of the overseas settlers in the state of Victoria; and whether he has any information as to the progress of the Royal Commission appointed by the Victorian Government to inquire into the grievances of migrant settlers?

Mr. THOMAS

I am in constant touch with the position of our Victorian settlers through the United Kingdom Representative in Australia, and the latest information is that the Royal Commission hopes to complete its labours during November.

Mr. ANNESLEY SOMERVILLE

Is it not a fact that the majority of these migrants who went out under a scheme encouraged by the home Government are in sore distress?
