HC Deb 20 October 1932 vol 269 c309
33. Mr. LOVAT-FRASER

asked the Minister of Health how many children over the age of three are living in Poor Law institutions in the county of Cornwall and within the area of the Isle of Ely County Council, respectively?

Sir H. YOUNG

I am informed in a receipt report of my General Inspector that there are 60 children over three in Poor Law institutions (as distinguished from Children's Homes) in the county of Cornwall, and that there are 32 such children in Poor Law institutions in the Isle of Ely.

Mr. de ROTHSCHILD

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that these children are under the Poor Law because their parents are agricultural labourers and cannot come under the Unemployment Insurance Act, and is not it high time that these agricultural labourers were given unemployment relief as are the men in the cities?
