HC Deb 18 October 1932 vol 269 cc3-4
Sir NICHOLAS GRATTAN-DOYLE

(by Private Notice) asked the Minister of Health whether any steps have been taken during the Recess for the relief of the distressed areas?

The MINISTER of HEALTH (Sir Hilton Young)

In accordance with the undertaking which I gave in this House on 13th July last, I have been having an investigation made into the working of the rules which govern the calculation of the General Exchequer Grants under the Local Government Act, 1929, and, in accordance with the statutory requirements, I am taking into consultation on the matter of the basis of these grants representatives of the associations of local authorities concerned. But I am not yet in a position to report the result of the investigation and consultations.
