HC Deb 18 October 1932 vol 269 cc1-2
Mr. MANDER

(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will state whether arrangements have now been made for the meeting of a Four Power Conference to dis- cuss the resumption of the work of the Disarmament Conference with the cooperation of Germany, and in what city the meeting will take place?

Mr. MORGAN JONES

(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any statement to make on the subject of the Disarmament Conference and the special position of Germany?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir John Simon)

The Bureau of the Disarmament Conference has been adjourned until 3rd November. The House will be aware that His Majesty's Government recently proposed a meeting between the four principal Powers concerned with a view to finding a solution of the difficulty raised by the withdrawal of Germany from the Disarmament Conference. The British proposal for this four Power meeting was accepted in principle by the other three Powers, but it has so far proved impossible to arrange for the place of such a meeting. His Majesty's Government are, however, considering the next step to be taken for securing agreement on this question.

Mr. T. WILLIAMS

Does not the right hon. Gentleman think it would serve the purpose of Disarmament much better if this country made some real, tangible proposals for disarmament?
