HC Deb 29 November 1932 vol 272 c632
20. Miss WARD

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is in a position to state the Government's policy with regard to the hydrogenation of coal?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I am not yet in a position to add anything to what was said on this subject by the Prime Minister on 7th November during the Debate on unemployment.

Miss WARD

When may we expect a decision as to the Government's policy in this matter?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I am afraid that I cannot say.

Mr. RHYS DAVIES

Have the Government any policy at all on the matter?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

indicated assent.

Mr. DENMAN

Will my right hon. Friend say that no extravagant scheme will be undertaken which involves either a heavy subsidy or a heavy loss to the revenue?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

We shall keep those criticisms in mind.
