HC Deb 28 November 1932 vol 272 c456
12. Major MILNER

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he can yet make any statement as to the progress of the Round Table Conference now sitting?

Sir S. HOARE

I do not think it will be necessary to make any formal statement as to the results achieved by the Conference until its deliberations are completed. There is no reason to be dissatisfied with the progress made in the first week.

Major MILNER

Does the right hon. Gentleman agree with the reflection made by the right hon. Member for Epping (Mr. Churchill) on the limited authority and capacity of the Indian delegates to that Conference?

Sir S. HOARE

I did not hear my right hon. Friend's observations. In point of fact, practically every Indian member of the Round Table Conference is there in some kind of representative capacity. In the case of the State's representatives, the Ministers actually directly represented the States that sent them.
