HC Deb 28 November 1932 vol 272 c473
41. Mr. LAWSON

asked the Minister of Labour the policy of the Government in respect to the provision of work for the unemployed?

Mr. HUDSON

The general policy of the Government was stated in the course of the Debate on the 4th, 7th and 8th November. There is at present nothing to add to this statement.

Mr. LAWSON

Is the hon. Gentleman not aware that the Minister of Labour stated in the House that the Government were considering proposals made from this side?

Mr. HUDSON

There is nothing at present to add to the statement made during the Debate.

Mr. BATEY

Is the hon. Gentleman not aware that during the Debate nothing was said about any proposals and no work was proposed; and can he not tell us what the Government propose to do, this winter, for the unemployed?

Mr. HUDSON

I am afraid the hon. Member cannot have listened to the answer which I have already given. I said that at present there was nothing to add to the statements made during the Debate.

Mr. LAWSON

Does that mean that the Government are doing nothing?

Mr. GURNEY BRAITHWAITE

Is it not the case that unemployment is already decreasing?
