HC Deb 24 November 1932 vol 272 cc215-6
1. Mr. BATEY

asked the Minister of Labour whether the three commissioners appointed to apply the means test in Durham County will have full or part-time appointments and the amount of the remuneration of each one?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. R. S. Hudson)

These are full-time appointments. The remuneration of the first commissioner is to be at the rate of £1,200 a year: that of the second and third commissioners at the rate of £700.

Mr. BATEY

In fixing that remuneration, is it intended that the commissioners should sit in different parts of the county?

Mr. HUDSON

Perhaps the hon. Member will wait until full details of the scheme of administration are published.

Mr. LAWSON

Cannot the hon. Gentleman say anything now as to the method of administration?

Mr. HUDSON

I do not know that it arises directly out of the question, but, as at present advised, I imagine that the commissioners will have very largely to travel around the county.

Mr. BATEY

When is it intended to publish full details and when shall we get them? Can I not have an answer? It is a very innocent question.

Mr. HUDSON

Perhaps the hon. Member will wait and see.
