HC Deb 24 November 1932 vol 272 cc219-20
10. Mr. LEWIS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will cause inquiry to be made as to whether, in the case of co-operative societies, some form of taxation other than Income Tax would be productive of substantial revenue without pressing unduly harshly upon this form of trading?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to a somewhat similar question asked by my hon. Friend the Member for South Kensington (Sir W. Davison) on 12th July last. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of that answer.

Mr. LEWIS

Is my right hon. Friend aware that the committee that investigated the question has already decided that its terms of reference preclude it from considering forms of taxation other than Income Tax?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Yes. I am aware of that fact.
