HC Deb 16 November 1932 vol 270 cc1128-9
35. Mr. CLARRY

asked the President of the Board of Trade the foreign countries with which he is in actual negotiation on the subject of improving conditions for the export of British coal into those countries, and the progress of such negotiations?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

Preliminary discussions on tariff matters have been opened with Argentina, Norway and Sweden, and will shortly be opened with Denmark and Iceland. The desirability of increasing the sale abroad of coal from the United Kingdom is a matter which will certainly be kept in the forefront in the negotiations which will follow. As my hon. Friend will be aware, discussions with regard to the restrictions upon the importation of United Kingdom coal into Germany are expected to take place in Berlin at an early date.
