HC Deb 15 November 1932 vol 270 c943
63. Mr. de ROTHSCHILD

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will take steps to ensure that the scheme for the installation of electricity in the Isle of Ely is put forward, in order that work which it is intended to carry out next summer may be available to relieve unemployment now and during the coming winter?

Lieut.-Colonel HEADLAM

I am not able to identify the precise work referred to by my hon. Friend, but I am informed that the company has not only fulfilled its statutory obligations but has carried out other considerable works in the Ely district. For financial reasons the company do not consider it feasible to accelerate any further extension at present.
