HC Deb 14 November 1932 vol 270 c746
38. Mr. McENTEE

asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps it is proposed to take to protect British stock raisers from the effects of the importation of live cattle from Canada?

Major ELLIOT

It is hoped to enlist the co-operation of the Canadian Government in the emergency measures which, as I have informed the House, are being taken to assist the British livestock industry.

Mr. McENTEE

Have any proposals been put before the Canadian Government, and, if so, what is their nature?

Major ELLIOT

I hope to discuss the situation with the High Commissioner for Canada at an early date.

Mr. RHYS DAVIES

Will the right hon. and gallant Gentleman remember, in looking into this question, the slaughtering industry as well?

Major ELLIOT

Certainly.
