§ 60. Sir NICHOLAS GRATTAN-DOYLE (for Mr. POTTER)asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that where telegrams are put through the telephone in the Metropolitan area an additional charge of 2d. is made for the telephone call; and will he consider the question of dispensing with such extra charge, in view of the convenience to the public in transmitting telegrams by means of the telephone?
§ Sir E. BENNETTI assume my hon. Friend refers to the fee charged for dictating a telegram from a telephone call box. This charge, which does not do more than cover the telephone operating cost involved, does not appear to my right hon. Friend to be unreasonable, in view of the additional facility for despatching telegrams at all hours of the day and night which is afforded, and he regrets he cannot see his way to abolish it.
