HC Deb 08 November 1932 vol 270 c181
31. Mr. FLEMING

asked the President of the Board of Trade if any retailers of foodstuffs, especially of meat and vegetables, have been prosecuted for profiteering since 1st June, 1932; and how many such prosecutions have been instituted, where, and wall what result?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

No such prosecutions have taken place.

Mr. FLEMING

Is the right hon. Gentleman satisfied that profiteering is not responsible for the gap which exists between wholesale and retail prices?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I could not express an opinion as to profiteering unless individual cases were brought to my attention and were thoroughly examined.
