§ 3. Brigadier-General NATIONasked the Financial Secretary to the War Office how many vacancies there are at the present time in the rank of field-marshal; whether these vacancies are to be filled; and whether, in the interests of economy and in view of the fact that there is no command for a field-marshal in the Army, the opportunity will now be taken to reduce the establishment to a minimum?
§ Mr. COOPERThere is one vacancy, and it will be filled in due course. The answer to the latter part of the question is that Field-Marshals are on the active list, and as such, are as much eligible for employment in the Army as are officers of the rank of General.
