HC Deb 01 November 1932 vol 269 cc1605-6
31. Captain HEILGERS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether the committee to inquire into the future of the sugar-beet industry has been appointed?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

No, Sir.

Mr. L. SMITH

Is the hon. Gentleman aware of the very distressing position of agriculture, especially in the Eastern counties, and will he, as soon as possible, let us know when that committee will meet?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

Yes, certainly, but there is no urgency about the matter, as the subsidy does not come to an end until 1934.

Mr. L. SMITH

Although that may be so is the Financial Secretary not aware that, until the fanning community knows the future position of this industry, it is extremely difficult for them to make their future programmes?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

I promise my hon. Friend that there will be no delay.
