§ 47. Mr. GLOSSOPasked the Postmaster-General whether local opinion, and in particular that of the Stockbridge Urban District Council, was taken into consideration before deciding to transfer the sub-post office at Deepcar, near Sheffield, to new premises; whether he is aware that the new premises are inconvenient for users of the post office and are situate away from the main street at the bottom of a narrow dangerous hill; and whether he will consider reviewing the case?
§ The POSTMASTER - GENERAL (Sir Kingsley Wood)It is not the practice to consult local authorities before filling a vacant appointment for a sub-postmaster, although any representations received are duly considered. The appointment at Deepcar has been conferred on the candidate considered the most suitable for it. The now premises are only 70 yards from the former site, and, I am informed, are equally convenient for the public using the office.
