HC Deb 30 May 1932 vol 266 cc825-6
49. Mr. PARKINSON

asked the Postmaster-General what revenue was received for advertisements in. the first issue of 1,000,000 5s. books of stamps; what is the revenue for the second series of 1,000,000 about to be issued; and whether he will consider the desirability of increasing the number of ½d. stamps in the books of stamps?

Sir K. WOOD

In the first issue, the revenue from commercial advertisements was about £215 above the cost of production. In the forthcoming issue much more space is being devoted to advertisements of Post Office services; and the revenue from commercial advertisements will be about £70 below the cost of production. I will consider again the question of including more halfpenny stamps in the forthcoming edition of the 5s. book, but I have received few representations as to any re-arrangement such as the hon. Member suggests.

Sir PERCY HARRIS

Does the right hon. Gentleman consider that this small sum is adequate for the advertisements in this publication?

Sir K. WOOD

I do not think my hon. Friend has followed my reply. I pointed out that more advertisements of Post Office services were going to be included in the forthcoming issue, and I think that the amount is reasonable in the circumstances?
