HC Deb 30 May 1932 vol 266 c823
41. Brigadier-General BROWN

asked the Minister of Agriculture what was the average cost per acre of the administration and legal expenses spent by county councils on their small holdings; and what percentage of the total rents received did these management expenses amount to?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Sir John Gilmour)

I regret that this information is not available.

Brigadier-General BROWN

Has not the right hon. Gentleman sent officials to approve of the provision of small holdings in the county?

Sir J. GILMOUR

That is another matter.

Brigadier-General BROWN

If they sent officials down there to approve of the small holdings, would they not also have some knowledge of the finance which those suggestions entailed?

Sir J. GILMOUR

If I were to get the information which my hon. and gallant Friend desires, it would mean circularising all the county councils, and I do not think that, at the present time, the expense of doing that would be justified.
