HC Deb 30 May 1932 vol 266 cc814-5
19. Mr. PARKINSON

(for Mr. RHYS DAVIES) asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that a petition sent to the League of Nations by the Ukrainian minority in Poland, protesting against the settlement of Polish ex-service men and members of Polish military organisations as colonists on land in Ukrainian Eastern Galicia, was declared by the League Secretariat last February to be urgent, and recommended to be placed on the agenda of the Council; and whether, in view of the lapse of time, he can state when this petition will be considered by the League Council?

Mr. EDEN

The petition to which the hon. Member refers was, in accordance with the usual procedure, referred to a committee of three for examination. The committee has reported to the Secretary-General to the effect that, as the result of their examination, it was unnecessary to bring this question to the notice of the Council of the League. I may add that the letter of the committee to the Secretary-General giving their reasons for their decision will be published, in due course, in the Official Journal of the League, and will then be available in the Library of the House.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Will it also be available to the people of the Ukraine, who made the complaint?

Mr. EDEN

Presumably it will be available to anyone who asks for it.
