HC Deb 25 May 1932 vol 266 c349
27. Mr. GLOSSOP

asked the Minister of Transport what proportion of the grant towards the road improvement scheme at Rawcliffe, near Goole, has been used for the building of a wall on adjoining land belonging to the West Riding County Council; whether he is aware that sections of this wall are higher than the old wall; and whether he will take steps to obtain a refund to the Ministry of money spent on improvements as opposed to replacements on this property?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Pybus)

The scheme is estimated to cost £32,250 and provides for walls, costing £2,828, to be erected on land belonging to the county council. The new road will be 200 yards nearer to the county mental hospital than the old road and a higher wall is considered necessary on this account. The cost of walls is included in the terms for the acquisition of land which were arranged by the district valuer and no question of a refund arises.

Mr. GLOSSOP

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that, while the construction of the road is being stopped, the work of erecting this high wall is continuing?

Mr. PYBUS

I cannot add anything to my answer.
