Miss RATHBONEasked the Secretary of State for India how many, or what proportion, of the persons imprisoned under the ordinances have been imprisoned on conviction; and what proportion have been detained in custody under the ordinance which permits a person to be so detained for a period not exceeding two months without trial?
§ Captain AUSTIN HUDSON (Lord of the Treasury)I have been asked to reply. My right hon. Friend regrets that the statistics of convictions received by him do not show the nature of the sentences inflicted, and he cannot therefore answer 2085 the question in the form in which it stands. He is, however, circulating in the OFFICIAL REPORT certain figures which he hopes will supply the hon. Member with most of the information which she desires.
