HC Deb 09 May 1932 vol 265 cc1540-1
33. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps are being taken by his Department to discourage the use in this country of foreign seed potatoes, in view of the danger of the introduction of various virus diseases of potatoes through their use?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The planting of imported potatoes in England and Wales is prohibited except under licence from the Ministry. The prohibition is imposed on sanitary grounds, and I am satisfied that the conditions on which licences are granted afford all practicable safeguards against the introduction of disease.
