HC Deb 04 May 1932 vol 265 cc1110-1
34. Mr. PARKINSON for

asked the President of the Board of Trade if his attention has been drawn to the announcement by the Minister of National Economy, Turkey, that the importation of sugar into that country will only be allowed from countries purchasing Turkish tobacco; and what effect this will have on the sugar export from Britain?

Mr. JOHN COLVILLE (Secretary, Department of Overseas Trade)

I have seen a report to this effect in the Press, but have not, so far, received any official confirmation of it. I would point out, however, that this country is an importer of Turkish tobacco.
