HC Deb 23 March 1932 vol 263 cc1039-40
55. Mr. BUCHANAN

asked the Minister of Labour the names of all the organisations from which he has received resolutions of protest against the administration of the Anomalies Act and asking for the repeal of that Act?

Mr. HUDSON

I am afraid this information could not be got out without a laborious search through all the files.

Mr. BUCHANAN

Is it not a fact that certain Conservative associations, including the Conservative Association of Nelson, have asked for the repeal of the Act?

Mr. HUDSON

That may well be.

Mr. MAXTON

Are protests coming to the hon. Gentleman's Department ignored completely?

Mr. HUDSON

No, Sir. Careful notice is taken of their contents.

56. Mr. BUCHANAN

asked the Minister of Labour what proportion of the number of persons who have ceased to sign the register since October have gone off the register owing to the working of the Anomalies Act?

Mr. HUDSON

I regret that statistics giving the information desired are not available.

59. Mr. THORNE

asked the Minister of Labour how many cases under the Anomalies Act have been refused benefits by public assistance committees; and from how many of these committees he has received representations calling for the repeal of the Act?

Mr. HUDSON

The public assistance committees are not concerned with the Anomalies Act, and I am afraid I cannot understand the hon. Member's question. Perhaps he will be good enough to discuss it with me later.
