HC Deb 21 March 1932 vol 263 c698
58. Mr. PARKINSON

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what will be the cost of building the new capital of Northern Rhodesia; and bow the money required is to be provided?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Sir Robert Hamilton)

It is proposed to spend on a reduced programme, providing for the removal of certain departments only, approximately £100,000 in addition to £8,000 already spent. Against this has to be set the cost of new quarters and offices which would otherwise have to be built in Livingstone. The money will be provided from surplus balances or loan funds of Northern Rhodesia.
