§ 98. Mr. PARKINSONasked the First Lord of the Admiralty the reason for an increase in the civil salary of the First Sea Lord for the year 1932 of £84, seeing that there is a decrease in the civil pay of the Second Sea Lord of £280, the Naval half-pay in each case being £1,092 per annum?
Lord STANLEYThe First Sea Lord's emoluments have been subject to the special cut of 10 per cent. applied to all officers of the Crown Services in receipt of more than £2,000 a year. The 1987 apparent increase in salary since 1931 is due to the fact that, for reasons of economy, a house allowance (cut by 10 per cent.) has been substituted for the furnished official residence with which he was formerly provided, as indicated by the footnote on page 245 of the Navy Estimates.
