HC Deb 08 March 1932 vol 262 c1637
Lieut.-Colonel APPLIN

(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary of State for India whether the advocate who was defending the accused Muslims at Srinagar was ordered to leave within 24 hours, with the result that the accused in the murder cases remain undefended, and what steps have been taken by the Government of India in the matter.

The SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Sir Samuel Hoare)

I have no official information.

Lieut.-Colonel APPLIN

Will my right hon. Friend make inquiries into this matter, which is very urgent?

Sir S. HOARE

I hesitate to make inquiries, for this reason: This is a question that affects the internal administration of an Indian State, and, from the information at my disposal, I can see no reason why the Government of India should intervene.
