HC Deb 08 March 1932 vol 262 cc1620-1
16. Mr. HANNON

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he can make a statement on the conclusion of a commercial treaty between France and Italy; and if British trade, rights and privileges under existing treaties with both countries are affected by this treaty?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I understand that negotiations for a new commercial agreement between France and Italy have reached their conclusion, a modus vivendi having been signed on 4th March. The text of the agreement is not yet avail- able, but it clearly could have no effect upon the rights secured to this country by existing treaties with the countries concerned.
