asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how dutiable tobacco confiscated by customs officers is disposed of when the duty has not been paid?

Apart from certain quantities of cigars and cigarettes which are disposed of by public auction, tobacco which has been seized for contravention of the Customs Acts is, if suitable for smoking, supplied for use by inmates of certain Criminal Lunatic Asylums, and unsmokable tobacco is supplied to National Botanical Gardens for fumigation purposes.
