46. Mr. LOGAN

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if his attention has been drawn to the case of Mrs. Alice Treacy, of 41, Vronhill Street, Liverpool, whose husband lost his life in Submarine M 2, and who was awarded a widow's pension of 19s. per week, plus 5s. each for twins 11 months old, total pension, 29s. weekly; if he is aware that her rent is 14s. per week, and milk costs 7s. 6d. weekly for the children, leaving her with 7s. 6d. per week, which she seeks to supplement from the public assistance committee; and will he be prepared to increase the pension?

The widow's pension and children's allowances awarded to Mrs. Treacy are at the maximum rates permissible under the Regulations, and I regret that I have no power to increase them.
