HC Deb 07 March 1932 vol 262 cc1473-4
42. Sir BERTRAM FALLE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether

The number of Companies registered during the years 1929, 1930 and 1931 was as follows:—
Year. Private. Non-private.
England. Scotland. Total. England. Scotland. Total.
1929 8,049 391 8,440 623 36 659
1930 8,085 427 8,512 325 29 354
1931 8,116 385 8,501 272 24 296

The total amount of registration fees and Companies Capital Duty paid in respect of all registered companies during the years 1929, 1930 and 1931 was as follows:—
Year. Fees. Duty.
England. Scotland. Total. England. Scotland. Total.
£ £ £ £ £ £
1929 123,458 6,929 130,387 4,118,133 230,872 4,349,005
1930 114,907 6,583 121,490 1,708,542 91,103 1,799,645
1931 107,346 6,093 113,439 910,070 56,572 966,642

As regards the second of the above tables it is not possible without undue labour to separate the amount of registration fees and Companies Capital Duty paid in respect of Companies actually registered in the years in question from that of those paid in respect of companies already on the register.

he will take steps to recover penalties in the cases of newsapers and magazines which have constituted themselves insurers and have not within the prescribed period maintained the deposit of £20,000 with the Paymaster-General in accordance with Section 2 of the Assurance Companies Act, 1909?
