HC Deb 07 March 1932 vol 262 c1459
43. Sir GEORGE HAMILTON

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he has any information concerning the imminent imposition of a quota system on manufactured goods by France; when it is likely to be introduced; and what representations he is making to the French Government in the interests of British trade?

Major COLVILLE

I have received no information which suggests that it is proposed to introduce a general quota system in France, but such a system has been enforced in the case of selected classes of manufactured goods. His Majesty's Ambassador at Paris has approached the French Government in regard to certain points affecting United Kingdom trade, and in every case the quota is examined to determine whether the amount allotted to this country is equitable having regard to past trade.
