asked the Secretary of State for India if he is now in a position to state the number of persons who have been arrested and sentenced for offences under Section IV of the Emergency Powers Ordinance of 1932 in provinces other than Bombay and the Punjab?

I am circulating a statement showing the number of persons convicted up to the end of February for breaches of orders issued under Section IV of the Emergency Powers Ordinance and the corresponding sections of the United Provinces and North-West Frontier Province Emergency Powers Ordinances.

Following is the statement:

Sections 2 to 62 of the Emergency Powers Ordinance have not been applied to Madras, Burma, the Central Provinces or Assam.
