HC Deb 02 March 1932 vol 262 cc1101-2
33. Mr. BUCHANAN

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can state what is the total weekly saving as the result of the last cut in wages to persons in the employ of the Civil Service and who receive less than £5 per week; and from what date the cut in wages operated?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Major Elliot)

I assume the hon. Member has in mind the reductions in the bonus payable to industrial and non-industrial civil servants which took effect in September and October last. The total weekly saving from the application of these measures to the wages of civil servants who receive less than £5 per week inclusive is estimated at £30,000.
