HC Deb 30 June 1932 vol 267 cc1992-3
12. Mr. MABANE

asked the Home Secretary how many persons have been killed and injured in the Metropolitan area and the rest of the country, respectively, in road accidents in which heavy road vehicles have been involved between 10th March, 1932, and the latest available date?

Mr. STANLEY

For the period 11th March to 31st May, inclusive, the figures for the Metropolitan Police district are 101 killed and 2,618 injured. I regret that figures for the rest of the country are not available.

Mr. MABANE

Is there any evidence to show that the new instructions recently issued to the police have had any effect in reducing the excessive and illegal speed of those vehicles, which is the principle cause of these accidents?

Mr. STANLEY

Perhaps the hon. Gentleman will put that question on the Paper?
