HC Deb 28 June 1932 vol 267 cc1630-1
25. Mr. REMER

asked the Minister of Agriculture if it is his intention to publish the final Report of the Pig Industry Council?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of the reply I gave on 14th April to a question on the subject by my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for The Wrekin (Colonel Bald-win-Webb), to which I have nothing to add.

Mr. REMER

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there are many conflicting reports, both in this House and elsewhere, as to what is contained in this report, and does he not consider it advisable, in order to dispel these rumours, to have the report published, so that we may know what is in it?

Sir J. GILMOUR

No Sir, I am clearly of opinion that it would be a waste of money to publish a report which is now being considered by a Commission set up by this House.

Brigadier-General Sir HENRY CROFT

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the pig industry is in a grave position, and that sows are being freely slaughtered, and is no action going to be taken?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I am very well aware of the anxiety.
