HC Deb 27 June 1932 vol 267 c1478
57. Mr. McENTEE (for Mr. GROVES)

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the St. Mary's Steamship Company, Cardiff, owed the Inland Revenue Department the sum of £36,000 in Income Tax; will he state why this indebtedness was waived and a sum of £3,600 accepted as a settlement by the Inland Revenue Department; and whether he will direct a special inquiry into the circumstances of the loss of revenue to the Exchequer?

Major ELLIOT

I am, of course, precluded from disclosing information regarding the liability to taxation of a particular taxpayer. As I informed the hon. Member on the 26th May last the taxation liabilities of the company in question have been settled and I am not prepared to direct a special inquiry into the matter.
