§ 57. Mr. McENTEE (for Mr. GROVES)asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that the St. Mary's Steamship Company, Cardiff, owed the Inland Revenue Department the sum of £36,000 in Income Tax; will he state why this indebtedness was waived and a sum of £3,600 accepted as a settlement by the Inland Revenue Department; and whether he will direct a special inquiry into the circumstances of the loss of revenue to the Exchequer?
§ Major ELLIOTI am, of course, precluded from disclosing information regarding the liability to taxation of a particular taxpayer. As I informed the hon. Member on the 26th May last the taxation liabilities of the company in question have been settled and I am not prepared to direct a special inquiry into the matter.
