HC Deb 27 June 1932 vol 267 cc1477-8
51. Mr. MAXTON (for Mr. McGOVERN)

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if his attention has been drawn to the arrest of a number of workers in Cyprus because they were preparing to take part in May Day celebrations on 1st May and to the fact that Eutathios Paillipou Xinarin, from Tsada Paphos, and Kyrican Triggiron, from Kaimanli, were certified by Dr. Ch. S. Phelides as suffering as a result of having been beaten on their legs and soles of their feet while they were detained by the police; and will he call for an inquiry into the circumstances?

The UNDERSECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Sir Robert Hamilton)

The Secretary of State has received no information about these alleged occurrences. The officer administering the Government of Cyprus is being asked for a report.
