HC Deb 23 June 1932 vol 267 cc1245-6
31. Mr. HAMILTON KERR

asked the Minister of Health whether he will issue a circular to local authorities in receipt of housing grants that when receiving applications for council houses they should inquire whether the means of the applicants justify them in requesting preferential treatment, with the object of ensuring that the people who need cheap accommodation are those who obtain it?

Sir H. YOUNG

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to a previous question put by my hon. and learned Friend the Member for Central Nottingham (Mr. O'Connor), of which I am sending him a copy. As at present advised, I do not think it would be advisable to supplement the action there referred to in the manner suggested by my hon. Friend.
