HC Deb 23 June 1932 vol 267 cc1260-1
66. Mr. BURNETT

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has yet received a report from His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires as to the cessation of the boycott and anti-Japanese agitation in Shanghai; and whether he has any statement to make?

Mr. EDEN

My information is that the anti-Japanese agitation has recently diminished though sporadic unofficial attempts to keep up the agitation still occur. The boycott is also steadily diminishing. Japanese firms in Shanghai are resuming business, and official Japanese reports show a gradual increase in trade with China.
