HC Deb 22 June 1932 vol 267 c1089
27. Mr. N. MACLEAN

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is taking any further action to diminish the burden on voluntary hospitals as the result of motor accidents?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Pybus)

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for North Lanarkshire (Mr. Anstruther-Gray) on 15th June.

Mr. ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

In view of the financial straits, will the right hon. Gentleman at least make some inquiries into a possible solution of this problem?

Mr. PYBUS

This problem has been carefully considered, and while I fully sympathise with the desire of the hospital authorities, I may remand the House that during the passage of the Act it was pointed out that an Amendment moved to Section 36 was unlikely to achieve the result required.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Cannot the right hon. Gentleman consider the holding of a sweepstake as they do in Ireland?
