§ The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the WAR OFFICE (Mr. Duff Cooper)The number of Army retired officers employed in the War Office in receipt of Army retired pay is 32. The amount of their retired pay is approximately £7,000.
§ Sir B. FALLEWill the hon. Member restrict as much as possible the employment of these retired officers as the cost is unnecessary?
§ Mr. COOPERThe cost is no higher than it would be if the work were done by anyone else. Somebody has to do the work that they are doing, and if they are qualified to do it, I do not see why they should not be employed as well as anyone else.
