HC Deb 15 June 1932 vol 267 cc384-5
21 and 22. Mr. PIKE

asked the Minister of Transport (1) the total number of stage carriage services now operated by combine companies compared to the number operated prior to the Road Traffic Act;

(2) the total number of applications for public service licences made by non-combine, stage carriage, operators and the total number made by combine operators, and the number of applications in each case which have been refused renewal since the operation of the Road Traffic Act?

Mr. PYBUS

Applications to the Traffic Commissioners are not classified according to the size of the business of the applicant or whether it represents a combination of operators; it is not possible, therefore, for me to supply my hon. Friend with the information for which he asks. I may say, however, that there were at the end of 1931 nearly 6,000 operators who owned less than 10 public service vehicles.

Mr. GROVES

Has the hon. Gentleman any control or influence over the conditions under which the men work?

Mr. PYBUS

That is another question.
