HC Deb 15 June 1932 vol 267 cc398-9
46. Captain NORTH

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he can now give any indication as to whether the reports of the reorganisation commissions for the bacon and milk industries will be available before the winter of the current year?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I am unable to say when the reports of these commissions will be available. I am satisfied that there will be no avoidable delay.

Captain NORTH

Cannot my right hon. Friend give any indication as to when I can get some answer to this question, if I put it down later?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I have, of course, impressed upon the commissions the urgency of the problems which they have to consider, and I think they are fully alive to it. So far, the matter is in their hands, and I am not in a position to press them beyond what I have done.

Lieut.-Commander AGNEW

Does the Minister anticipate having the legislative proposals arising out of these reports ready for the beginning of the Autumn Session?

Sir J. GILMOUR

That, also, I cannot say until I know what the recommendations may be.

Sir JOSEPH LAMB

Would it not be possible for some interim report to be received from these commissions, in view of the great urgency of a settlement for the coming negotiations?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The commissions are alive to the fact that, if they can make an interim report at any time, they may do so, but that is a matter for their judgment.
