asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he hopes to make a definite statement as to the intentions of the Government with regard to the consolidation of bonus and salaries in the Civil Service?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I am not yet in a position to indicate when a statement on this subject will be possible.

Mr. LEWIS

Are we to understand from that reply that no statement on that subject will be made before we adjourn for the Summer Recess?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

Oh, no, Sir. I hope a statement may be possible before then.
