asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can state the quantity and value of carpets imported during the first five months of the present year which paid duty and which were placed in bond, respectively?

Figures are available only in respect of "Carpets, carpeting and rugs made wholly or partly of wool or jute." The quantity and value of such carpets imported during the first five months of the year 1932 were 851,503 square yards and £496,168, respectively. The value of such carpets on which duty was paid on importation during the first five months of the present year was £24,774 and during the same period such carpets to the value of £317,793 were entered to be warehoused under bond. Figures of the respective quantities duty paid and warehoused are not available.
