asked the Minister of Agriculture what proportion of the expenditure of the Ministry of Agriculture was allocated to salaries and travelling expenses of officials in 1931 and 1921, respectively?

Salaries and travelling expenses of officials, excluding industrial staff and officers paid by fees, accounted for 19.2 per cent. of the Ministry's expenditure in 1921 and for 20.9 per cent. in 1931. In 1921, the Ministry's expenditure included substantial sums in respect of war-time services and abnormally large sums in respect of foot-and-mouth disease, of which the. cost of officials formed a relatively small proportion.
