21. Mr. HUTCHISONasked the Minister of Health if he will state the number and names of urban district councils in Essex which impose on their tenants a condition that they must either discontinue the use of gas in favour of electricity or ran the risk of being ejected from their homes; and whether his Department discourage this practice, in view of the fact that these houses are constructed in part with public money?
Sir H. YOUNGI regret that the information sought in the first part of the question is not available as local authorities are not required to inform me of their methods of management of their estates. I have no reason to suppose that such a practice is common, and, if con- 1310 sulted on the matter, should certainly deprecate arbitrary action of the kind described.
